Yadgir
Yadagri district was formed on 30-12-2009. Earlier Yadgir was part of Gulbarga district. Yadgir district includes 3 Talukas namely Shahapur, Shorapur and Yadgiri. Population of the district as per the 2011 census is 11, 72,985. Roughly equal to the nation of Timor-Leste or the US state of Rhode Island. This gives it a ranking of 404th in India (out of a total of 640).The district has Population density of 224 people per Sq. Kim. Yadgir district co - ordinates 16.7700° North , 77.1300° East.
Yadagir district is endowed with natural resources like water (River Bhima and Krishna), rich uranium deposits have been found in the Gogi belt covering the villages of Gogi, Ukkinal, Darshanapur in Shahapur taluk, and Thinthini and other places in Surapur taluk. Uranium processed here will be used for defense and power generation purpose.
River Bhima, flows through the heart of the district and splits Yadgir and Shahapur Taluka. Number of bridges cum barrages is built across the Bhima River facilitating irrigation and drinking water facility to the villages and towns situated on the bank of the river. Large scale industrialization is hoped in the days to come. M/s Core Green Sugars, Wadagera and few small power generating plants situated along the Krishna river which flows in Shorapur Taluka.
A huge dam I,e.Basava sagara (Narayanpur dam) is built across Krishna river in Shorapur taluka. Canals and distributaries are built in Shorapur, Shahapur talukas providing irrigation to the 60% of the cultivable area. Zonal KSRTC depot exists in Yadgir gives employment. Sugar cane is flourishing along the canals.
Agriculture is the main occupation of the district. The district head quarter is well connected to other districts by road & train facilities. Inside the district connectivity is good by roads except in Shorapur and parts of Shahapur and Yadgir Taluka.
In Yadgir district Government transport services exist for transporting public on good roads but there is no public transport
facility to remote villages and also in the area where there are no good roads. Mobile network facility is not available in few remote villages bordering Andhra Pradesh.
The economy of Yadgir is depending on Agricultural crops mainly Paddy, cotton, ground nut, tur dal and other cereals were grown in the different parts of the district based on the availability of the water, soil fertility and the climatic condition.
Irrigation depends mainly on river water source from Bhima and Krishna. River water drainage density in the district ranges from 1.12 to 2.73 km sq km (CGWB, GOI report, August 2012). Yadgir district has HDI index of 0.609, just above the average. Yadgir is one of the backward district of the state.
